CLEANLINESS IN SCHOOL

To provide a healthy and safe environment for students is one of the most important responsibilities of all schools.  Many issues related to hygiene that students and school employees have to face every day are large in number. Especially when it comes to kids, most of those contagious bacteria and viruses can even harm them for life or affect the social and economic well-being of the school. The facility manager or the principal of a school needs to make sure that the school building always stays clean. From classrooms and hallways to cafeteria and administrative offices, the school staff must maintain the cleanliness in schools every day. Maintaining cleanliness in school is vital for many reasons since students and teachers spend most of their time at school.

CLEAN ENVIRONMENT FOR LEARNING

Schools not only impart knowledge but also play a significant role in shaping the personality of an individual. Ensuring the school’s lecture halls, classrooms, study, and living areas are all kept clean and tidy always creates an environment that is conducive to teaching. Messy and dirty classes not only present an unpleasant image, but they can also be distracting and negatively impact the pride students have in a school.

A simple way to enhance learning for students, improve job satisfaction for teachers, reduce illness, and fight allergy symptoms is maintaining the school’s cleanliness. Different weekly cleaning tasks assigned to all students help to keep all classes clean and create a comfortable environment to study. Students will also carry out the same habit of keeping their space clean at home, while they learn to maintain a healthy environment in their school. Teachers are more productive when they interact with children in healthy, clean classrooms compared to an unclean atmosphere.

WHAT IF THE SCHOOL FAILS TO PROVIDE A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT?

Failing to provide a clean environment means a school fails to provide the basic needs for the health and success of its students. A student learns lessons of discipline, honesty, and cleanliness from school apart from education. Therefore, it is very important that a school needs to maintain a hygienic atmosphere. A student’s learning in school is not just confined to the four walls of a classroom, but the whole school environment is a source of knowledge. Teachers can also become ill or suffer allergy symptoms in a school with poor hygiene. Healthy, focused teachers will do a better job of teaching and are less likely to miss work. Keeping the school surroundings neat and clean can help slow the spread of illness and reduce the number of students and teachers who fall ill. It is known that the flu virus can live on surfaces for 48 hours. There is a high chance of infection for students who touch that surface. In this case, simple cleaning methods are not enough rather the cleaning staff must use disinfectant cleaners that kill germs on surfaces.

HEALTHIER SCHOOL SURROUNDINGS

Cleaning staff must also know which surfaces to target. Main surfaces that are touched often, like desks, doorknobs, computer keyboards, and hands-on learning tools should be given high priority to be cleaned always. Students are better able to learn and less likely to be absent from school when they are better protected from the flu and the common cold. Apart from that, a school’s cafeteria is another place of most importance in a school that needs to be kept cleaner. Students can think in a more organized manner in an organized space, leading to enhanced learning.
